August 17, 2008

'When did you begin Zazen?' I was asked by a good friend of mine.
'Well, it was after living in Eiheiji that i started Zazen seriously', I answered.

That means, the reason i went to Eiheiji would not be, just because I like Zazen.

Dogen-zenji, who founded Eiheiji said, "When you sit Zazen, you will become good person,"
but in reality, it is very difficult to be a 'good person'
wanting to eat delicious food, wanting to be praised, wanting to be with pretty girls... full of such desires.

As long as we do not know how to deal with such desires, these desires will increase indefinitely.
I was often told in Eiheiji, 'desires are the cause of suffering.'

'How to deal with such desires.'
This was Zazen, and Eiheiji for me.
After graduating university, I was full of desires. but I decided to stop thinking too much at once, and face these desires.

This could be one of the reason why I went to Eiheiji.
